Sheet Metal Apprentice

Please have any referrals contact Alicia Wenker @ 626-960-3964 ext. 2291. They must go through Alicia!

We are now ready (I hope) to start taking applicants who would like a career as a Sheet Metal Worker. The work is hard, dirty, requires traveling to different sites (carpooling may be possible), working with different people of all trades, working in high altitudes when needed and other trade skills. The best candidates will need to have a passion to make this a long term commitment as a trade occupation.
Upside to this line of work:
1. You can learn other trades along with Sheet Metal training that makes you more marketable and provide you with work outside of sheet metal industry (HVAC repair, design, electrical----all part and included in the training)
2. You start at $19.83 ( but average out to $26.79 when you consider benefit package). At the end of your five years apprenticeship you can make $45.16 including benefits and up to $60 as journeyman.
3. Five year training can earn you your AA degree upon completion.
4. Criminal Background (not an issue with a few exceptions) and not having a High School or GED certificate is not a problem.
5. You can work indoors, not just outdoors.
6. You can earn several certifications during your apprenticeship
7. Union Representation (Union dues are about $45 month)
8. Over 140 contractors waiting for eager apprentices
9. Excellent Benefits
10. Will work 9 days, and attend school (mandatory) on the 10th day.
Lance, our contact has asked that everyone go through me as he only wants one point of contact and that is the agreement that Sal, our CEO, signed off on.
I need to refer candidates that have been screened, tested and have filled out their application. I will be providing a referral to those candidates to ensure that LA Works get’s proper credit and we can document our placements. Your referrals (ETS’s) are YOUR placements so lets work together on getting those placements. I have attached some sample tests (not the actual ones) for you to prepare your clients. For those that are registered, our current assessments may be able to determine if they will pass their testing successfully—only those that do pass should be referred.
LA Works will hold recruitments for them by doing outreach to the following counties: Los Angeles, Riverside, San Bernardino and Orange.
I am planning on setting aside Fridays for this process, and will start promptly at 10:30 am so we can get everything done by 1pm. A WIA registration will be completed by those not already registered—I have a few coming in tomorrow, but plan to be up and running by next Friday.
Please screen your referrals based on the above criteria, as they don’t want us to refer just anyone.. They want candidates that plan on making this a career choice—not a survival job.
